The Oxford OPP said 16 vehicles were inspected during the day that included licence, documentation, vehicle weight and mechanical fitness checks.

“The OPP acknowledges and commends the many safe (commercial) drivers who contribute to safe Ontario roads,” a release stated. “The OPP will continue to work with (commercial) drivers to aim to reduce the number of (commercial motor vehicle)-related collisions and resulting deaths and injuries on OPP-patrolled roads.”

The blitz was done in partnership with the Oxford OPP, the OPP West Region traffic incident management and enforcement team, and the Ministry of Transportation enforcement officers.

According to the release, the provincial police investigation thousands of preventable commercial-vehicle collisions each year.

Commercial vehicles involved in collisions were roughly 11 per cent of all OPP-investigated collisions and more than a 1,000 collisions with commercial vehicles were responded to in the OPP’s west region.
