A commercial vehicle inspection blitz in the Town of Essex on Monday resulted in 13 charges.

The Essex County OPP traffic management unit and Ministry of Transportation enforcement officers worked in conjunction to inspect 14 vehicles, police said in a news release on Tuesday. Officers checked licensing, documentation, vehicle weight, and mechanical fitness.
As a result, seven vehicles were taken out of service and 13 charges were laid.

In 2020, commercial motor vehicles were involved in roughly 11 per cent of OPP-investigated collisions in Ontario, a slight increase from 2019, according to police. West Region OPP, which includes Essex County, responded to just over 1,000 collisions involving commercial vehicles last year.
